PHILADELPHIA (July 31, 2026) — Today, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner and the DAO’s Homicide and Non-Fatal Shootings Unit charged Defendant Derek Reid in connection to a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on Kelly Drive on June 24, 2026.
Additionally, Defendant Derek Reid is charged with rape and other related offenses connected to a sexual assault that occurred in 2021.
The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office charged Defendant Derek Reid (DOB: 10/09/1977) with the following in relation to the fatal hit-and-run:
- Accidents Involving Death (F2)
- Homicide by Vehicle (F3)
- Involuntary Manslaughter (M1)
- Recklessly Endangering Another Person (REAP) (M2)
Defendant Derek Reid is also charged in relation to a Violent Sexual Assault Against a Minor that occurred in 2021:
- Rape (F1)
- IDSI (F1)
- Statutory Sexual Assault: 8-11 Years Older (F2)
- Sexual Assault (F2)
- Unlawful Contact with a Minor (F3)
- Endangering the Welfare of Children (F3)
- Corruption Of Minors (M1)
- Indecent Exposure (M1)
In the late evening of June 24, 2026, Victim Bryce Wolfe had been riding his motorcycle along Kelly Drive. Defendant Reid was driving a white SUV in the opposite direction. Reid attempted to make a U-turn near Reservoir Drive, which resulted in the collision with Wolfe on his motorcycle. Reid failed to stop his vehicle and continued to drag Wolfe for nearly a mile. Philadelphia Police officers tracked the car and eventually determined it was registered to Reid.
Reid was arrested by U.S. Marshalls on July 29, 2026 in relation to an active warrant for a 2021 child rape. While in custody, Reid admitted to being the driver of the white SUV.
Defendant Reid has been arrested, charged, arraigned and awaiting preliminary hearings. The Commonwealth requested $1.5 million bail in regards to the fatal hit-and-run and requested $999,999 bail in connection to the sexual assault. The Philadelphia courts set bail at $750,000 for each. This is an active and ongoing investigation.
“The devastation Defendant Derek Reid inflicted on these two families is horrific. No one deserves to have their son taken away in such a careless way. We will pursue these charges to the fullest extent of the law,” said District Attorney Larry Krasner. “This office also has zero tolerance for predators who brutalize the vulnerable, to include our children and young people. We are standing with these families during their journey of healing and we will do everything we can to seek and secure justice.”
