Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, Law Enforcement Partners Seek Public’s Help Locating Northeast Homicide Suspects

PHILADELPHIA (July 10, 2023) — District Attorney Larry Krasner, the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office, and other law enforcement partners are requesting the public’s help locating eight fugitives wanted for homicides committed in Northeast Philadelphia since September of 2022. 34-year-old Justin Akines is wanted for fatally beating his partner’s 4-month-old child in an apartment on the 8200 block of Frankford Avenue on the morning of September 4, 2022. Investigators do not have a motive for this tragedy.

15-year-old Taj Lennon, 23-year-old Kevin Yip, and 18-year-old Kyzir Reeves, are wanted for their involvement in a quadruple shooting that occurred on the afternoon of April 28, 2023, on the 5900 block of Palmetto Street. Three of the four shooting victims, all of whom ranged in age from 14 to 17 years old, succumbed to their gunshot wounds. Five .40 caliber fired cartridge casings (FCCs) and 12 9mm FCCs were recovered from the scene, in addition to a .40 caliber Glock 27. His cousin, 23-year-old Tyree Lennon, was apprehended on Thursday, July 6, for his role in this shooting.

30-year-old Kelvin Ortiz-Santos is wanted for the murder of a Port Richmond man whose charred remains were discovered by firefighters responding to a car fire on the 5900 block of Sylvester Street in the early morning hours of April 18, 2023. Investigators linked Ortiz-Santos to this crime through vehicle registration records and surveillance video recovered from the area. The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office Homicide and Non-Fatal Shootings Unit approved charges for Ortiz-Santos on June 2, 2023.

21-year-old Qasim Pointer is wanted for fatally shooting a 17-year-old female who was walking her dog on the 5300 block of Horrocks Street on the evening of September 11, 2022. Upon further investigation by Philadelphia police, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office Homicide and Non-Fatal Shootings Unit approved charges for Pointer including Murder, Conspiracy, Violation of the Uniform Firearm Act (VUFA) 6106 and VUFA 6108, and Possession of an Instrument of Crime (PIC) on February 16, 2023. No crime gun was recovered from the scene.

30-year-old Nicholas Santiago is wanted for shooting a 38-year-old male multiple times in the torso on the evening of June 9, 2023 on the 7100 block of Jackson Street. The victim was transported to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Three 9mm FCCs were recovered from the street where the homicide occurred. The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office Homicide and Non-Fatal Shootings Unit later approved charges of Murder, VUFA 6105, VUFA 6106, and VUFA 6108, PIC, and related charges.

30-year-old Rasheem Trusty is wanted for fatally shooting a City of Philadelphia sanitation worker on the morning of November 18, 2022 on the 7300 block of Rowland Street. The sanitation worker was shot multiple times throughout his body while on duty and was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.

“While the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office and our law enforcement partners continue to seek justice for the victims and communities impacted by these violent acts, we cannot stress enough the important role that the public plays in this process,” said DA Krasner. “If you or someone you know has any information that can help bring these fugitives to justice, contact law enforcement immediately.”
