“Programs like these are part of the solution to saving the lives of our city’s youth and improving public safety in the long-term,” said District Attorney Larry Krasner. “When you give young people options, they choose the right path. Congratulations to the community-based organizations awarded in this round of violence prevention microgrants. This is a clear example of how the right programs improve communities and lower crime.”
“It’s often the case that when we go home and turn on the TV to watch the news, what leads is something tragic,” said G. Lamar Stewart, Chief, DAO’s External Engagement & Government Affairs Division. “I hope what leads from here is the remarkable work these organizations are doing for the city of Philadelphia and our surrounding communities. The DAO’s External Engagement & Government Affairs Division remains deeply committed to helping communities in the journey of healing and transformation in collaboration with our partners.”
Applications for additional grant funding are currently not being accepted. The DAO will reopen the application process later this year. 501(c)(3) groups interested in future microgrant opportunities should sign up for email updates from the Foundation for new application deadlines. DAO violence prevention grant funding is derived from the lawful and appropriate use of civil asset forfeiture and is distributed and audited by the Philadelphia Foundation.
