PHILADELPHIA (August 10, 2026) — District Attorney Larry Krasner and the DAO’s External Engagement and Government Affairs Division on Monday announced the award of $240,000 in violence prevention microgrants to 26 community-based 501(c)(3) organizations focused on neighborhood beautification. Since the DAO’s Violence Prevention Grant Initiative launched in May 2021, the program has awarded over $8.2 million in microgrant awards.
The DAO awarded these local groups aimed at revitalizing neglected public spaces, impacting neighborhoods through ecological justice education, and bringing environmental enhancement efforts to communities across Philadelphia. Their work includes providing opportunities and programming for neighborhood beautification projects, bettering the environment, and keeping our community safe through these endeavors.

“August marks 59 consecutive months of declines in violent crime in Philadelphia, and while we have a lot more work to do, these 26 organizations represent a big part of the solution by providing boots-on-the-ground resources and support to our communities,” said District Attorney Larry Krasner. “Neighborhood beautification and blight reduction not only improves the quality of life, but it strengthens the sense of community that enables neighborhoods to thrive. These organizations should be applauded for their dedication and commitment to keeping our communal spaces accessible.”

Applications for additional grant funding are currently not being accepted. The DAO will reopen the application process later this year. 501(c)(3) groups interested in future microgrant opportunities should sign up for email updates from the Philadelphia Foundation for new application deadlines. DAO violence prevention grant funding is derived from the lawful and appropriate use of civil asset forfeiture and is distributed and audited by the Philadelphia Foundation.
