Rob Bielunas has served as the Government Affairs Liaison for the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office External Engagement and Government Affairs Division since 2025, where he helps manage relationships between the DAO and elected officials at both the city and state levels. He brings to his role years of experience working directly with residents and public officials.
Born in Trenton, New Jersey, and raised in Yardley, Pennsylvania, Bielunas developed an early interest in government and public service that would ultimately shape his career. Today, he works to advance the office’s policy priorities, facilitate communication with government partners, and identify opportunities for collaboration on issues affecting communities across the city.
A graduate of Hofstra University, Bielunas earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in rhetoric in 2017. During his time on Long Island, he served as president of the College Democrats and participated in student government and Model United Nations. Reflecting on his college years, he described himself as involved in “all that good nerd stuff.” His interest in politics began even earlier. “My family was very political,” he said. “My dad used to watch MSNBC every night, so I started watching it with him, and that’s really what piqued my interest.” While still in high school, he interned for then-State Representative Steve Santarsiero, an experience that demonstrated to him “how government can really help people on a day-to-day basis.”
Following graduation, Bielunas briefly worked as a fundraiser at WHYY before joining the staff of U.S. Senator Bob Casey in 2017. As a constituent advocate, he specialized in labor, employment, and pension issues while also assisting constituents with matters ranging from Social Security and housing to small business loans during the COVID-19 pandemic. The role reinforced his commitment to public service and helping individuals navigate complex government systems. In his current position, he helps coordinate meetings with elected officials, supports community events, and advances the District Attorney’s legislative and advocacy agenda.
Outside of work, Bielunas finds fulfillment in family, the outdoors, and a variety of hobbies. “My cats, I have two of them. I love them to death. They’re my kids,” he said, adding that spending time with his husband, gardening, fishing, skiing, and home brewing all bring him joy. For students considering a career in government affairs or public service, Bielunas emphasizes the importance of purpose. “Know why you’re doing it,” he advised. While popular culture often portrays politics as dramatic and cynical, he believes the reality is much different. “A lot of times, I say government is more like Parks and Recreation than House of Cards,” he said. “You have to really have a passion for it. You have to want to make a difference to really succeed in this field.”
