PHILADELPHIA (July 8, 2025)—Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner and members of the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office Major Trials Unit announced on Tuesday that Timothy Bynum (DOB 12/24/92) was convicted of Aggravated Assault, Conspiracy, and related charges for his role in a home invasion that occurred in January 2023 in South Philadelphia.

Bynum was convicted by Judge Tamika Washington last month of three counts each of:

  • Aggravated Assault (F1)
  • Conspiracy (F1)
  • Simple Assault (M2)
  • Recklessly Endangering Another Person (M2)

The defendant was also found guilty of VUFA 6105 (F1), VUFA 6106 (F3), and VUFA 6108 (M1), and numerous other related charges.

On January 13, 2023, Bynum and two co-conspirators—the defendant’s mother and sister—broke into a rooming house in the 1200 block of South Newkirk Street. Bynum produced a firearm and repeatedly struck the complainant and two of her family members in the head while demanding to know whether their target was on the premises. The three victims were subsequently transported to Jefferson Hospital, where they received stitches and staples for their injuries. Investigators believe the home invasion and assault were related to a domestic dispute between Bynum’s family and a woman residing at the Newkirk Street property.

Bynum is scheduled for sentencing on August 22, 2025, before Judge Washington.

“I applaud the skillful prosecution of this case by Assistant District Attorney Jesse Plaksa of our Major Trials Unit,” said District Attorney Krasner. “I also thank the Honorable Tamika Washington for this fair and just verdict. Mr. Bynum has a history of seemingly engaging in violence for the mere enjoyment of doing so, and for terrorizing witnesses. I’m glad that he no longer poses a threat to the victim’s family nor to the community.”
