Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office Provides Prosecutorial Updates on Recent Shootings, 3 Year-Old Shooting Victim

PHILADELPHIA (January 2, 2026)— The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office provides the following prosecutorial updates on Friday regarding two recent shootings that occurred on January 1, 2026 in Northeast Philadelphia and West Philadelphia.

Shooting Incident #1:

The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office announces charges in reference to Triple Shooting Homicide in Northeast Philadelphia:

Defendant Tyriq Williams (DOB: 06/21/2003) is charged with:

  • 2 Counts of Murder Generally (F)
  • 2 Counts of Conspiracy (F)
  • 2 Counts of Possessing Instruments of Crime (PIC) (M1)
  • 2 Counts of Recklessly Endangering Another Person (REAP) (M2)

Defendant Cara William Reeves is charged with:

  • 2 Counts of 3rd Degree Murder (F)
  • 2 Counts of Tampering with Evidence   (M2)
  • 2 Counts of Simple Assault  (M1)
  • 2 Counts of Aggravated Assault (F1)
  • 2 Counts of Conspiracy to Aggravated Assault  (F1)
  • 4 Counts of Recklessly Endangering Another Person (REAP) (M2)

On Thursday, January 1, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Philadelphia Police Officers responded to the 7100 Block of Oakland Street in Northeast Philadelphia. Upon arrival, officers located a Hispanic male in the front yard of the area suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest. The victim was transported to Jefferson–Torresdale Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Later, officers responded to Temple Hospital for a gunshot victim and, upon arrival, officers were informed a male was dropped off in a private vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest and leg. The victim also succumbed to his injuries. Defendant Tariq Williams also sustained a shooting injury to his left hand.

A firearm was recovered from defendant Tyriq Williams by police at Temple Hospital and a second firearm was recovered from the scene on the 7100 Block of Oakland Street. Witnesses positively identified the defendants listed above to investigators.

Shooting Incident #2:

The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office announces charges in reference to the non-fatal shooting of a 3 year-old child victim in West Philadelphia.

Defendant Shamar Norris is charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault (F2)
  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child (F2)
  • Possessing Instruments of Crime (PIC) (M1)
  • Recklessly Endangering Another Person (M2)
  • Simple Assault (M2)

On January 1, 2026, at approximately 5:00pm, Defendant Shamar Norris entered the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia with his son, the 3-year-old victim, who had a gun shot wound to his right foot. The victim was listed in stable condition. Philadelphia Police officers arrived at the 900 Block of North 42nd Street in West Philadelphia where an eyewitness, directed investigators to the bedroom where the incident took place and the gun was located. The defendant is facing the above charges because the duty of care to his child was violated by the defendant’s reckless conduct.

“We are outraged at the thought of a 3 year-old being the victim of gun violence in Philadelphia. Our prosecutors and detectives at the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office are working collaboratively with investigators at the Philadelphia Police Department to ensure both of these senseless gun-related crimes and cases are prosecuted with vigor and determination in pursuit of justice for each of the victims,” said District Attorney Larry Krasner. “Victim advocates and community engagement liaisons from the District Attorney’s Office have begun making outreach to the families and communities impacted by these horrific crimes to offer the necessary and critical services available to support those impacted on their journey of healing.”
