PHILADELPHIA (April 7, 2025)—Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner and members from the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office on Monday requested the public’s assistance in locating Zonte Redmond (DOB 6/21/99). Redmond is wanted by law enforcement for the fatal shooting of Shahyodd Chavis last year.
On the afternoon of January 27, 2024, Chavis entered into a verbal altercation with his ex-girlfriend outside of her residence located on the 800 block of Cecil Street in the Cobbs Creek section of the city. During the argument, Redmond exited his mother’s residence next door and interrupted the argument. He subsequently produced a prohibited firearm and shot the decedent multiple times.
Redmond was identified by investigators after recovering Ring camera footage of the shooting from Redmond’s mother’s house. An arrest warrant was issued for Redmond on February 6, 2024, but he had fled the area.
“As we kick off National Crime Victims’ Rights Week in Philly and nationally, I urge members of the public who have information on Mr. Redmond’s whereabouts to contact law enforcement so that we can secure justice for Shahyodd Chavis’ family and friends,” said DA Krasner. “You can call the Philadelphia Police tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477), the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Warrant Unit at 215-683-3726, or the U.S. Marshall’s Office tip line at 1-877-WANTED-2.”
“Someone knows where this young man is,” said Thaisa Richards, Shahuodd’s mother. “Please help get us some justice and some closure for our son’s death and help us put him to rest peacefully.”
