Press Release Image

PHILADELPHIA (April 28, 2026) —  Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner and the DAO’s Juvenile Unit announced that the DAO is charging a juvenile defendant for the killing of her newborn child shortly after birth at home on Saturday, April 25 in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia.

At this time, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office is charging the female juvenile with the following charges:

  • Voluntary Manslaughter (F1)
  • Possession of an Instrument of Crime (PIC) (M1)
  • Recklessly Endangering Another Person (REAP) (M2)
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence (M2)

Based upon the investigative documentation available at this time, the DAO looks forward to receiving additional expert and other reports to clarify crucial issues.

“What is clear now is that this heartbreaking incident constitutes criminal homicide and other criminal charges. More clarity is needed on this teenage girl’s mental state both before and shortly after childbirth, when the crimes occurred,” said District Attorney Larry Krasner.

The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office is working collaboratively with our partners at the Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) on this investigation to obtain all the necessary, factual and expert reports in this case.

DA Krasner added: “If additional evidence indicates modification of these charges is just, they will be modified in the future, as always. From the very beginning, our C.A.R.E.S. Unit (Crisis Assistance Response Engagement Services) has been in touch with the family, co-survivors and community impacted and will remain so to ensure they receive the appropriate resources and services, in collaboration with the assigned Assistant District Attorney and DAO’s Victim Services Unit.

“In addition, any potential medical and/or psychiatric needs of juvenile defendants must be addressed, as always, per the law.  The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office remains committed to individual justice, including individual justice for women and girls of every age.”

This investigation is active and ongoing.
