District Attorney Krasner Statement on Jury Conviction of Former Philadelphia Police Officer Mark Dial

PHILADELPHIA (May 22, 2025)—District Attorney Larry Krasner issued the following statement following a jury conviction of former Philadelphia Police Officer Mark Dial:

“On Thursday, May 22, 2025, a jury convicted former Philadelphia Police Officer Mark Dial of Voluntary Manslaughter, Possession of an Instrument of Crime, and related offenses for his role in the shooting death of Eddie Irizarry, which occurred on August 14, 2023.

“I want to thank Assistant District Attorneys Karima Yelverton and Clarke Beljean for their dedication and commitment to seeking justice for the family of Eddie Irizarry. I also want to thank the Philadelphia Police Department’s Officer Involved Shooting Unit for their comprehensive and solid investigation of this police-involved shooting death in collaboration with our team. Lastly, I want to thank the jury for their service throughout this criminal justice proceeding.

“The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office remains committed to fair and even-handed justice no matter who the offender or victim may be. While we believe most sworn law enforcement personnel carry out their responsibilities with integrity and professionalism, we believe today’s conviction of the former Philadelphia Police Officer Mark Dial was both fair and just.

“Our Victim Services Unit will continue to provide support services to the family of Eddie Irizarry and the community impacted by this tragic shooting death.”

Sentencing for this case is scheduled for July 17, 2025, before the Honorable Glenn Bronson.
