PHILADELPHIA (November 12, 2024) — District Attorney Larry Krasner and members of the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office Elder Justice Unit announced charges on Tuesday against Janhyi Boyd (DOB 12/4/03) for robbing a senior woman in a Germantown pharmacy in October.

Janhyi Boyd is charged with Robbery (F2), Simple Assault (M2), Recklessly Endangering Another Person (M2), and Evading Arrest (M2).

On October 18, 2024, Boyd entered a Rite Aid on the 100 block of West Chelten Avenue and approached a 94-year-old woman waiting for a prescription to be filled by the pharmacy. The defendant grabbed the woman’s purse and attempted to yank it from her person. The woman held on, however, and the defendant dragged her across the floor. An envelope with cash spilled out from her purse and the defendant pocketed the $42 contained in the envelope.

Police responded to the scene and apprehended Boyd as he attempted to flee. The defendant was arrested at the scene.

“I want residents to know that our Elder Justice Unit is committed to holding accountable defendants who prey upon some of our city’s most vulnerable,” said DA Krasner. “Assistant District Attorney Alex Blumenthal, who supervises the EJU, will prosecute this case and ensure that Mr. Boyd is held accountable for assaulting and taking advantage of this 94-year-old woman.”

“The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office Elder Justice Unit is committed to seeking justice for senior Philadelphians, whether they’re assaulted in a pharmacy or preyed upon financially,” said ADA Blumenthal. “Any immediately dangerous crime perpetrated against our city’s seniors should be reported to law enforcement by calling 9-1-1. I also urge residents who have information about the neglect or exploitation of older adults to contact the Elder Abuse Multidisciplinary Team Hotline at 215-686-5710.”
