PHILADELPHIA (June 9, 2022) – Following their apprehension on Thursday by U.S. Marshals in Norfolk, Virginia, the District Attorney’s Office will be charging two individuals with Murder for their roles in the fatal shootings of innocent bystanders during a mass shooting incident on South Street last Saturday, June 4th.
Qaadir Dukes-Hill (DOB: 12/7/2003) will be charged with Murder, Conspiracy, illegal firearms possession (VUFA), and related offenses for his role in the shooting death of Alexis Quinn, a 24-year-old home health aide from Philadelphia.
Nahjee Whittington (DOB: 6/12/2004) will be charged with Murder, Conspiracy, VUFA, and related offenses for his role in the shooting death of Kristopher Minners, a residential advisor at Girard College who had been celebrating his 22nd birthday. Whittington will also be charged with Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, and Reckless Endangerment of Another Person (REAP) for his role in the non-fatal shooting of another innocent bystander during the mass shooting incident.
“I want to thank our partners in law enforcement at the Philadelphia Police Department, the ATF, the U.S. Marshals, and authorities in Virginia for working so intensely and collaboratively to ensure the individuals we allege are responsible for these horrific crimes were swiftly identified and brought into custody without incident,” District Attorney Larry Krasner said. “The Victim/Witness Services and CARES units of our office will continue to offer support and services to the families and loved ones of Ms. Quinn and Mr. Minners through their grief and through the criminal justice process. I continue to call on lawmakers at the state and federal levels to honor these grieving families with urgent action on commonsense gun manufacturing and sale restrictions — which are supported by a majority of Pennsylvanians and Americans. Inaction is complicity in such senseless, preventable bloodshed.”
While the investigation of this incident is active and ongoing, investigators believe all individuals responsible are now in custody (one shooter was killed during the incident). On Wednesday, Quran Garner (DOB: 8/29/2003) was arraigned on four counts of Aggravated Assault, two counts of Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer, and related offenses. Rashaan Vereen (DOB: 12/05/1987) was arraigned on charges including Attempted Murder, Conspiracy, Aggravated Assault, Obstructing Administration of Law, and Tampering with Evidence.
