PHILADELPHIA (October 22, 2025)— Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office announced on Wednesday the convictions of three defendants for their roles in a quadruple shooting, triple shooting homicide at a North Philadelphia playground & basketball court (8th & Diamond Streets) in the summer of 2023.

The three defendants were convicted of the following:

  • Tyyon Bates (DOB 7/16/2004) was convicted of three counts of First Degree Murder, one count each of Conspiracy to Commit Murder, VUFA 6106, 6108, PIC, and four counts of REAP.
  • Quaza Lopez (DOB 8/21/2003) was convicted of three counts of First Degree Murder, one count each of Conspiracy to Commit Murder, VUFA 6106, 6108, PIC, and four counts of REAP.
  • Eric Reid (DOB 2/10/2002) was convicted of three counts of First Degree Murder, one count each of Conspiracy to Commit Murder, VUFA 6106, 6108, PIC, and four counts of REAP.

On Friday August 11, 2023 just after 6 PM, Philadelphia police responded to a shooting at the 8th and Diamond Playground. Upon arrival, officers found multiple shooting victims and a primary scene was located on the basketball courts.

Nyreese Moore suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene. Naasir Folk suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, left arm, and both legs, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Isaiah Williams suffered gunshot wounds to the head and left leg and was transported to Temple Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries the following day. Surviving victim Jeffrey Pressley suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was transported to Temple Hospital in critical condition.

Investigators recovered footage showing a White Chevrolet Silverado quad-cab circle the area four times before stopping on Darien Street. Five shooters can be seen exiting the truck and rushing onto the basketball court where they open fire. Video surveillance reveals the lead gunman—the first to enter the basketball courts—was shot in the upper legs by friendly fire during the shooting. Four small children—each appearing under the age of six—were observed playing on the sidewalk next to the basketball court and fleeing for their lives when the shooting began. The White Chevrolet Silverado flees the area east on Diamond Street just before 6 p.m.

Audio and video evidence recovered during the investigation shows Tyyon Bates purchasing a 2015 White Chevrolet Silverado for $225, approximately three hours before the murders. Surveillance video captured the tag of the Silverado which was ultimately recovered from a vacant lot on the 1700 block of N. 6th Street. Video surveillance from the vacant lot revealed the site was used as a staging area both before and after the murders—allowing for the identification of Lopez and Reid, as well as Tyyon Bates being carried out of the Silverado and into another vehicle.

Late in the evening of August 11, 2023, Camden County Detectives called the Homicide Unit and advised that sometime after 6:30 PM a black male shooting victim who identified himself as Tyyon Bates had been dropped off at Virtua Marlton Hospital and was subsequently transported to Cooper Medical Center in Camden, New Jersey, which is confirmed by surveillance video from the hospital. Subsequent review of social media, cell phone records, and cell phone extractions revealed the meticulous planning of the defendants and their efforts to escape without capture.

On Monday, October 20th, the Honorable Judge Glenn B. Bronson sentenced Bates, Lopez, and Reid each to three consecutive terms of life in prison without the possibility of parole, followed by 24-48 years.

“The case’s outcome is a testament to the excellent prosecutorial work of ADA Cydney Pope,” said First Assistant Robert Listenbee. “A case like this couldn’t have been solved five years ago, but due to the help of video and audio evidence, ADA Pope and the fearless law enforcement agents who worked tirelessly on this case allowed the family here today and receive justice.”

We thank the family of victim Nyreese Moore for bringing to light who Nyreese was. “Nyreese was the little brother I never had. I’ll never forget that call, it’s like everything stopped,” said Nyreese’s cousin, Cody Carter. “I just pray that better days are coming for these young men. I’m just tired of this senseless violence.” Nyreese’s mother, Tori Singleton and father, Taris Foster, were also in attendance.
