DA Larry Krasner Announces $1.1 Million in Grant Awards to Dozens of Community-Based Nonprofits Assisting People Returning from Incarceration

PHILADELPHIA (April 24, 2025)—District Attorney Larry Krasner and the Philadelphia Foundation awarded over $1 million in violence prevention microgrants to 29 community-based 501(c)(3) organizations on Thursday. These nonprofit organizations provide supports, including workforce development, to people returning from incarceration to society. This distribution is the largest amount of microgrants awarded by the DAO and Philadelphia Foundation since the DAO’s Violence Prevention Grant Initiative launched in May 2021. The program has now awarded over $5 million to community-based nonprofits working to address the root causes of violent crime since its inception.

The awardees are as follows:

Baker Industries is awarded $32,000.

Beat the Block is awarded $50,000.

Beyond Literacy is awarded $50,000.

Bicycle Coalition Youth Cycling Program (BCYC) is awarded $35,000.

Career Wardrobe is awarded $30,000.

Connection Training Services (CTS) is awarded $50,000.

Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site LEAD Program is awarded $50,000.

Fab Philly Youth is awarded $50,000.

Graduate Philadelphia is awarded $41,285.

ManUpPHL is awarded $25,000.

Neighborhood Bike Works is awarded $30,000.

New Leash on Life USA is awarded $50,000.

P. Michael Moore Boon Foundation (Junior Barber Academy) is awarded $50,000.

PAR-Recycle Works is awarded $50,000.

Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) is awarded $50,000.

Redemption Housing is awarded $30,000.

Sankofa Healing Studio is awarded $50,000.

Temple University’s Lenfest North Philadelphia Workforce Initiative is awarded $10,000.

The Elevation Program is awarded $50,000.

The Hand2Paw Foundation is awarded $16,380.

Triple Bottom Brewing’s Sustainable Business Education Initiative is awarded $45,000.

YOACAP is awarded $50,000.

Youth Sentencing and Reentry Project (YSRP) is awarded $50,000.

Diamond Beauty Academy is awarded $50,000.

Fearless Icons is awarded $10,000.

NewView Institute is awarded $20,000.

Nicetown Community Development Corporation (NCDC) is awarded $50,000.

OIC Philadelphia is awarded $50,000.

Womxn Beyond Borders is awarded $30,000.

“Community-based nonprofits, in many respects, have served as the driving force behind our city’s continued drop in violent crime, particularly gun violence,” said DA Krasner. “They do the hard work day in and day out addressing the root causes of violence. My office is proud to help sustain their efforts as we continue modern enforcement. Prevention coupled with modern enforcement will hopefully continue to curb violence in our communities.”

The DAO expects to announce the next round of microgrants by June 2025. DAO violence prevention grant funding is derived from the lawful and appropriate use of civil asset forfeiture and is distributed and audited by the Philadelphia Foundation.
