PHILADELPHIA (March 3, 2025) — Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner on Monday announced charges against Taesean Grant (DOB 10/20/04) for nonfatally shooting a 16-year-old male on the 30 block of 52nd Street on the morning of February 25, 2025.
Grant is charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault (F2), one count each of VUFA 6106 (F3) and VUFA 6108 (M1), and related charges. Surveillance footage obtained by investigators shows Grant and the juvenile victim engaged in an argument. The argument escalated into a physical altercation. At one point, the victim attempted to flee when he saw Grant produce a firearm; the defendant then opened fire, striking the teenager in the back.
Grant subsequently fled the scene but was apprehended minutes later by Philadelphia Police Officers who were driving past the two males moments before shots rang out. Officers recovered a 9mm Poly 80 handgun from the defendant and three fired cartridge casings (FCCs) from the scene that matched the crime gun. Grant later provided a post-Miranda statement to investigators wherein he admitted to shooting the juvenile. The defendant has a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 10, 2025.
“This case is yet another clear example of why state legislators need to enact commonsense gun laws to help curb the proliferation of so-called ‘ghost guns’,” said DA Krasner. “These dangerous weapons are far too easy to obtain and are ending up in the hands of young men at an increasingly alarming rate. My office will continue to hold people like Mr. Grant accountable for their reckless behavior and disregard for public safety, but we also need lawmakers to step up and do their part.”
