Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office Major Trials Unit Secures Conviction in Narcotics Distribution and Illegal Firearm Case

PHILADELPHIA (August 22, 2022) — Kevin Walker (DOB: 05/11/1983) was convicted and sentenced by a Philadelphia judge last week with Possession with Intent to Distribute (F) narcoticsVUFA 6105 (F1), VUFA 6106 (F3), and Possession of an Instrument of Crime (M1), following his arrest in October of 2020 by police in the city’s Nicetown-Tioga section.Early on the morning of October 4, 2020, a plainclothes Philadelphia Police Department detective, who was stopped at the intersection of Germantown Avenue and Erie Avenue, observed Walker and another individual exchanging a firearm in front of a convenience store on the 3600 block of Germantown Ave. The detective radioed for backup. 39th District police officers and the detective shortly thereafter exited their vehicles and started to approach the defendant. Walker subsequently fled southbound on foot and was pursued by law enforcement, but was soon apprehended.Authorities discovered on Walker’s person an unserialized .40 caliber firearm and an extended magazine, numerous rounds of ammunition, 117 containers of crack cocaine, a significant quantity of cannabis, and U.S. currency of various denominations.

“Thanks to Assistant District Attorney Ty Pittinger‘s skillful prosecution and to the dedication of the Philadelphia Police Department, Mr. Walker, a clear danger to the residents of Philadelphia, is now off the streets and behind bars for a considerable and appropriately lengthy amount of time,” said District Attorney Larry Krasner. “Our office, in conjunction with our law enforcement partners, will continue to do everything in our power to seek justice against those who perpetrate harm in communities across our city.”“I want to thank Philadelphia Police Department Detective Patrick Gallagher and 39th District officers for their outstanding police work in this case,” said ADA Ty Pittinger. “I’m proud to have prosecuted this case and to hold this individual, who has a long history of serious offenses, accountable for his actions.”Noting Walker’s lengthy criminal history that spans over 20 years and which includes nine adult convictions prior to 2017 for illegal firearm possession and narcotics distribution, among other offenses, the Hon. Roxanne E. Covington sentenced the defendant to 9 to 18 years of state incarceration plus additional time in custody due to violations of parole.
