PHILADELPHIA (February 24, 2022) – Following his arrest by Philadelphia Police, the District Attorney’s Office has charged William McIntyre (DOB: 5/01/1996) for his role in the February 1st attempted robbery of a corner store in the Wissinoming section of the city. Co-defendant Resean Lewis (DOB: 9/26/1996) was wounded during a shootout with a store employee, who was also shot and seriously wounded. Lewis has been in custody since his arrest shortly after the criminal incident.
McIntyre and Lewis are alleged to have entered the 24-hour store at approximately 3:50 AM on February 1st and to have announced a robbery. Both defendants are alleged to have been armed and to have pointed firearms at store employees. An exchange of gunfire ensued in which Lewis and a store employee, who was also armed, were shot and wounded. The defendants fled the scene, after which first responders were called and the wounded employee was transported to the hospital.
Less than one hour later, Philadelphia Police were notified that a gunshot victim had arrived at Temple University Hospital. Officers identified the victim as Lewis using recovered surveillance footage of the robbery and fingerprint ID and arrested him. Lewis, who was in violation of court supervision for a prior offense and wanted for arrest by police on a bench warrant since April 6, 2021, was charged by the DA’s Office for the February 1st incident with Aggravated Assault, Robbery, Conspiracy, VUFA 6105/6106/6108, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and related offenses.
After police investigators identified McIntyre as Lewis’s accomplice, the DA’s Office on February 8th approved Aggravated Assault, Robbery, Conspiracy, VUFA 6105/6106/6108, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and related charges. McIntyre was taken into custody yesterday and arraigned earlier today.
“I want to thank Philadelphia Police investigators who worked this case until both defendants were taken off our streets. Small business owners and workers deserve to be safe while providing for their families, securing their futures, and serving and supporting their communities. But the freedom that comes with safety is just not guaranteed in a nation where guns outnumber people and state and federal government makes little effort to track and regulate them,” District Attorney Larry Krasner said. “My office and our law enforcement partners will continue to work with the small business community and neighborhood improvement districts toward public safety solutions that will keep Philadelphia on its current track of growth.”
DA Krasner continued: “Make no mistake: gun violence crimes carry severe consequences for those caught by police, prosecuted by the Philly DAO, and held accountable in our courts. This is a warning to young people who cannot see their own promise and a bright and productive future: gun violence and violent crime carry severe consequences not just for you, but for those who raised you and love you.”
