For the Commonwealth highlights the important work our prosecutors are doing to help secure justice in specific cases brought by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.
Assistant District Attorney Katherine Wood of our Homicide and Non-Fatal Shooting Unit helped secure justice recently in a case involving a defendant accused of shooting and injuring an unarmed man who had been removing groceries from a vehicle, when the defendant started opening fire in the city’s Kingsessing section in March 2021. The complainant, who later testified at trial about his ordeal, was struck by two bullets and suffered two graze wounds: one to his chin and one to his shoulder. In addition to victim testimony, ADA Wood utilized an additional eyewitness that also located through joint efforts of the District Attorney’s Office and the Philadelphia Police Department. A jury found the defendant guilty of Aggravated Assault and related firearm charges. He will be sentenced by the Hon. Giovanni Campbell in March.
